Frequently Asked Questions

Most of typical questions are listed below. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out!
Direct primary care (DPC) is a fairly new practice model that hearkens back to the way medicine used to be. Instead of involving insurance companies for preventive and routine provider visits, a DPC practice bills patients directly via monthly membership fee, and in return, the patients become "members" of the office and enjoy enhanced access to their provider and to medical care. DPC clinics limit the number of members in order to ensure that the provider has sufficient availability for members of the practice. The provider can provide longer visit times, same or next day appointments, phone/video visits if practical and the patient has direct access to their provider via phone, text, and email.
In a traditional primary care practice, doctors are compensated based on how they code and the number of patients they see, rather than based on the quality of care that they provide. In a DPC practice, quality of care is the number one priority. Providers working in a DPC practice are able to spend more time with each patient; patients have easier access to their provider; and patients are guaranteed to see their provider. These are just some of the benefits of a DPC practice.
Functional medicine is patient-centered care that looks at the whole patient and not just their symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners look for the root cause of how and why an illness is happening. Using both western medicine and integrative medicine, practitioners can focus on the prevention of disease. Functional medicine practitioners work with each individual patient using diet, exercise, nutrition, laboratory testing, supplements, therapeutic diet, detoxification programs, and lifestyle changes to help patients reach their optimal wellness.
That's great! We want them to stay that way and we can help with that. Our goal is to prevent disease as well as treat it. We can be there, however, for those not-so-great times. One trip to the Emergency Room is about equivalent to an entire YEAR of membership with us! In addition to saving you money, we also will save you time (an ER trip is never fast), and peace of mind. It will be Katie seeing your child instead of someone you’ve never met. It will be Katie answering your middle of the night questions. It will be Katie who is 100% there for your child. That is priceless.
Yes, we do offer visits at home for an additional service fee. We believe that parents and children get better care in the comfort of their own home. This is to make getting care as easy as possible and allows for less stress, especially when your child is sick.
Yep. Katie is really that available. Any time you call. Any time you text. It will always be Katie responding. How many pediatricians can say that?
Due to the small number of patients and the high cost of vaccines, we will not be able to offer vaccinations on site. Parental choice is always respected!
Due to the unique style of our practice, there are no "set hours" for patients and Katie is almost always available to be contacted for urgent medical needs. We currently offer all care during core hours. In-person visits are by appointment only. Our typical core business hours for in-person visits at our Leesburg location are 9 am - 4 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for Newborn Visits. After hours in-person visits, evenings, weekends, and holidays, are reserved when deemed clinically necessary.
We know that illness doesn't respect traditional office hours. If your child is ill, you can call or text Katie! You will get access to the member line when you become a member. She does have a family, however, and we ask that you try to keep all non-urgent communication to business hours. After hours in-person visits, evenings, weekends, and holidays, are reserved when deemed clinically necessary.
Yes - We strongly recommend to schedule a meet & greet with Katie prior to 36-week gestation.
This is why we recommend you still have insurance. We will not make unnecessary referrals, but sometimes it is needed. If you see a specialist or get admitted, it will go through your insurance as usual. Your membership fee will not cover these costs. The benefit is Katie will help expedite your admission and work closely with the team treating you and this will likely shorten your stay and save you money!
We will bill your bank account (preferred)/credit/debit card directly on the 1st of each month starting from the time of your first appointment. Since we automatically bill, you don't have to remember to pay each month!
We hope you don't have to make this decision, but if you do, there is no penalty to you. Your membership will terminate 30 days from the time of notice. If you decide to return at a later time, there may be a re-enrollment fee.
Katie will always do her best to give you a notice for any planned absences and if she will be available for virtual visits. If your child requires evaluation, they will be seen by our covering provider.
Because we know your child so well, Katie may be able to take care of your child with a virtual visit.
No. Although we are great at our job, we can't predict the future. We recommend all our patients have at least a high-deductible/catastrophic insurance plan or a be a part of a health sharing ministry for those high-cost events such as an ER trip or hospital admission.
We see everyone, regardless of insurance status. Pure Pediatrics & Wellness focuses on the patient needs and not the needs of insurance that may also place constraints on services. Pure Pediatrics & Wellness does not participate in health insurance plans. Our practice is easier than most pediatric offices. Instead of presenting your insurance card, paying a copay, then getting an ADDITIONAL bill in a few weeks/months of an unexpected (and often excessive) amount, you pay once a month to Pure Pediatrics & Wellness and that has you covered. This way, there is no concern that Pure Pediatrics & Wellness is out of network or not part of your groups plan. And if you’re uninsured, you can still be seen! Pure Pediatrics & Wellness does not guarantee that insurance will reimburse for any services.
Yes! Pure Pediatrics & Wellness does not replace any existing or future health insurance or health plan coverage that you may carry. We recommend all our patients have at least a high-deductible/catastrophic insurance plan or a be a part of a health sharing ministry for those high-cost events such as an ER trip or hospital admission. Some HMO-style plans do require an “in-network” primary care doctor for access to other services. Please check with your insurance company. You can discuss with your insurance representative about what plan would be best for you.
Yes! Because the type (or lack) of insurance, doesn’t matter! We see every child regardless of their insurance status. We do not bill Medicaid, however, and a membership fee will still apply.
These services are not covered by the membership fee: vaccinations, labs, imaging, medications, therapies. There is no charge to administer the vaccines in our practice. Specialty visits, hospital stays, surgeries, etc: Any medical services from other medical providers will be billed to your insurance plan.
